American business, William Henry Gates III, better known as Bill Gates has revealed a far greatest challenge than Coronavirus pandemic.

The philanthropist in a post shared on his verified Twitter account on Monday, February 15 opined that dealing with climate change is humanity’s greatest challenge.

According to Gates, solving climate change would be “the most amazing thing humanity has ever done”. He noted that dealing with the dreaded COVID-19 disease is easier than with climate change.

Naija News understands that the Microsoft-founder stated this while speaking about his new book on climate change.

Gates said he wrote the book ‘How to Avoid a Climate Disaster’ because he thinks we’re at a crucial moment. He noted that his focus is on how technology can help make climate change easily handled.

“I’ve seen exciting progress in the more than 15 years that I’ve been learning about energy and climate change. The cost of renewable energy from the sun and wind has dropped dramatically. There’s more public support for taking big steps to avoid a climate disaster than ever before. And governments and companies around the world are setting ambitious goals for reducing emissions,” he said.

He said: “We’ve never made a transition like we’re talking about doing in the next 30 years. There is no precedent for this. Fifty-one billion is how many tonnes of greenhouse gases the world typically adds to the atmosphere each year.”

“Net-zero is where we need to get to. This means cutting emissions to a level where any remaining greenhouse gas releases are balanced out by absorbing an equivalent amount from the atmosphere. One way to do this is by planting trees, which soak up CO2 through their leaves.”

Giving highlights on the solution to climate disaster, Gates wrote; “To avoid a climate disaster, we need to eliminate emissions from the ways we create electricity, grow food, make things, move around, and heat and cool our buildings. It won’t be easy, but I believe we can do it. This book is about what it will take.”
