Multiple award-winning international singer, Rihanna has reacted to the fresh Lekki tollgate protest which occurred in Nigeria on Saturday, 13th February 2021.

Naija News recalls several Nigerian youths had on Saturday, taken to the Lekki tollgate plaza in protest against the decision of the Lagos judicial panel to reopen the tollgate for business.

The tollgates had been shut since October 2020 when security operatives allegedly shot and killed many people during the #EndSARS protests which rocked the nation.

However, the Lagos judicial panel of inquiry investigating the alleged extrajudicial activities of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) last week approved the reopening of the Lekki tollgate, prompting angry reactions from the youths.

On Saturday, despite the heavy presence of security operatives and the arrest of many protesters, youths stormed the Lekki tollgate to demand the gates be shut down until justice is served for those who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protests.

The development also attracted several reactions on social media with many condemning government action in clamping down on the protesters.

In her reaction, Rihanna who commented on a post by Amnesty International on the protest wrote: “Peaceful protest is a human right!! and ended her statement with the #EndSARS hashtag.
