Nigerians on Saturday marched out in their numbers to protest against the decision of the Lagos State Judicial Panel to resume operations at the Lekki toll gate.

Lekki toll gate was one of the major venues where youths in Lagos State gathered to protest against police brutality across the country last year.

Things, however, went south when security operatives on October 20, 2020, opened fire to disperse the youths at the scene.

The incident attracted reaction from local and international communities that called for an investigation.

The judicial panel set up by the Lagos State government to investigate the incident granted the request of the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) Ltd to reopen the toll gate a few months after the incident.

The action of the panel led to the decision of the youths to return to the tollgate despite warnings by the government and police to shelve such a plan.

Naija News had earlier reported that Popular comedian Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, was arrested by the Nigerian Police at the Lekki toll gate.

In a live Instagram post before his phone and those of other arrested protesters were seized, the comedian lamented that “Lekki is under military rule.”

The Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday evening, granted bail to Mr Macaroni, and 39 other arrested #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters.

The Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced this in a statement on Saturday evening.
