South African Mobile Telecommunication Company, MTN Group has supported the African Union (AU) with a donation of $25 million towards the purchase of millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Naija News understands that the telecommunication company doled out the huge sum since January 2021.

The donation according to a report on Africa Facts Zone‘s Twitter account on Wednesday will help secure the purchase of 7 million doses of the dreaded disease vaccination for health workers across the African continent.

“The devastating impact of Covid-19 has been unprecedented and profound. Public and private partnerships are needed if we are to succeed in the fight against the pandemic and restore social and economic norms for our continent and communities,” Ralph Mupita, president and CEO of MTN Group was quoted saying in another post.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 1,056 (one thousand fifty-six) new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the new cases were reported in a post on the disease control agency’s Twitter handle on Tuesday night, February 9, 2021.
