Gunmen Attack Customs Officers Near Navy Base In Abia

Suspected gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a female reporter, Mrs Chidiebele Julian Onyia working with the Nigeria Television Authority, (NTA), Network Centre in Port Harcourt.

She was said to have been kidnapped on Tuesday evening.

Though details of the alleged abduction are still sketchy, a post by her colleague, Mrs Osinachi Samuel, revealed Julian works as a Production Editor was abducted around Oil Mill axis of Port Harcourt on Tuesday evening.

“Please, there’s a Sister and Colleague in need of freedom from kidnappers. NTA Port Harcourt Reporter, Chidiebere Oyia, was kidnapped Last night around Oil mill axis, on her way from work after NTA News @7. ( She worked as the Production Editor). Please, Sirs and ma’am’s, help us with any means to find her. Please Contact Manager News or any Police near you with valid information for her rescue,” Osinachi wrote.

Some other reports indicated that she was picked up on her way home by the gunmen along Railway crossing in Woji Community of Obio-Akpor local government area of the State at about 8 pm on Tuesday after the NTA 7pm newscast.

The Rivers Police Command has not reacted to the abduction as at the time of filing in this report.

Meanwhile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has demanded the prosecution of arrested bandits and kidnappers to serve as a deterrent to others.

He made this known on Tuesday in Ikenne, Ogun State, where he participated in the ongoing APC membership and revalidation exercise.

According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Laolu Akande, the vice-president noted the prosecution of the arrested criminals will serve as evidence of justice delivery in the country.

He also called for the establishment and strengthening of the State Police structure which he said would help to improve security nationwide.

Osinbajo also demanded a stronger collaboration between the security agencies and Justice ministries to solve insecurity challenges in the country.
