Why We Adjourned Sitting After 6-week Recess – Lawan

Senate President, Ahmed Lawan says the National Assembly adjourned sitting over the death of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ossy Prestige.

Naija News reports that the late lawmaker who was a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), represented Aba North/South federal constituency. Prestige died on Monday after a brief illness.

Reacting to the lawmaker’s death during plenary on Tuesday, the Senate President expressed shock and sadness over the death of Prestige.

Lawan, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi, in Abuja, said that the departed lawmaker would be sorely missed by all his colleagues in the National Assembly.

He said that Hon. Prestige was a good representative of his constituency in the National Assembly who touched many lives through his business engagements and charity outreach such as the Prestige Ossy Foundation and The Favoured Initiatives.

Lawan commiserated with his family, friends and political associates over his irreparable loss. He also condoled with the Government and people of Abia State and prayed that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

The Senate President announced that both chambers of the National Assembly will resume plenary sessions on Wednesday.

Before the green chamber adjourned sitting, the speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, announced the death of the lawmaker on the floor of the chamber.

“It is unfortunate and sad, with a very heavy heart; I want to announce the death of our colleague Ossy Prestige,” he said.

The federal lawmakers had gone on a six-week recess in December after passing the N13.588 trillion budget for 2021 fiscal year.
