Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has revealed the reason for banning an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, from preaching in the state.

Naija news reported that Ganduje had earlier banned Kabara from leading prayers or preaching in the state over his messages which are considered to be inciting.

It was later reported that operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) stormed the cleric’s home and mosque to bar his followers from protesting or create a scene possible of causing violence.

Speaking on Thursday after his ban, Kabara accused Ganduje of banning him from preaching because he worked against him during the 2019 general election.

The cleric alleged the governor’s action against him is more political than religious or incitement.

But reacting to the allegation leveled against him, governor Ganduje said the cleric was banned from preaching for making inciting statements, which are capable of breaching the peace in the state.

Speaking during a meeting on Thursday with the Imams of Juma’at Mosque and Islamic clerics in the state, Ganduje said the ban of the Islamic cleric still stands.

He asked the clerics to always strive to be shining examples both in words and in deeds and not fan the embers of disunity and violence in the state.

Ganduje, who reminded the clerics of their roles in society, also appealed to them to fashion out ways that would propagate genuine teachings of the religion.

He urged Nigerians to tolerate one another, live in peace with one another, irrespective of religious, cultural and ethnic differences.
