Kwankwaso's Ally Ends APC’s Gaya 16-Year Reign In Senate

A former Kano State Governor and current Chairperson of the Senate Committee on INEC, Kabiru Gaya has stated that the North should take a break from the presidency.

This is as he declared that personally, he would support the southern region for the 2023 presidency for the sake of equity.

Gaya made his position known at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum on Tuesday where he submitted that in the spirit of fairness, the south should produce Nigeria’s next president while the north should produce the vice president.

He said: “On the issue of presidency in 2023, I will support a president from the southern part of the country.”

“I believe it is time we have a president from the southern part of the country while the vice president comes from the north.

“I think it should be fair to rotate the presidency in such a way that people will have confidence in the system; both the north and the south will accommodate each other. Nigeria needs to be one country, one united country.’’

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied the report making round that it plans to field former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate during the 2023 presidential election.

There were speculations that some governors under the party visited the former president to contest under the ruling party.

The party described the report as the handy work of some people.

The Chairman of the interim committee of the APC and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni while speaking with BBC Hausa service said that there was nothing like courtship in the matter as politics is all about actual talking.
