2023 Presidential Election Remains Most Improved In Nigeria’s History - Garba Shehu

The Presidency on Monday disclosed that it has not decided the date for the announcement of a new Inspector-General of Police.

The present IGP, Mohammed Adamu is expected to leave office on Monday, (today) as he attains the retirement age.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, while speaking on the development on Channels Tv said is not aware of any plan to appoint a new police chief.

He said, “The President returns to Abuja on Tuesday, he should be on his desk by Wednesday. I don’t know when he will do this. One thing I can assure you is that in places sensitive like that, there is no vacuum that will subsist, so therefore the system will take care of itself.”

In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday insisted that the appointment of security chiefs is not done based on ethnicity but on their ability to secure lives and property in Nigeria.

Buhari made this known on Monday through his Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

He was reacting to calls by different groups in the country for the next Inspector General of Police (IGP) to come from the south-eastern part of the country.
