End Of Boko Haram In Sight As New Service Chiefs Storm Maiduguri

The newly appointed service chiefs have arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital to meet with critical stakeholders to strategize on how to tackle Boko Haram insurgency in the theatre of war.

According to DailyTrust, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Leo Irabor led the delegation to arrive at the headquarters of Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri on Sunday.

Others include the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. General Leo Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Maj. General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff, AVM Awwal Gambo and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao.

A security source revealed that the service chiefs are expected to brainstorming on how to re-strategise approach that will ensure lasting peace in the region.

Irabor, along with his team, was received by Maj.-Gen. Farouq Yahaya, Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Abdul Khalifa, the General Officer Commanding, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army and other principal staff officers of the Military Command and Control Centre at the Headquarters of the Air Task Force.

Abdul Khalifa told the NAN, in an interview, that the CDS would be meeting with the Service Chiefs, Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Chiefs of Training and Operations from the Defence Headquarters, Army, Navy, Air Force and other field commanders, where they would be briefed on recent operations in the theatre.

Khalifa said that the service chiefs would also pay courtesy visits to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ibn-Garbai and Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of the newly appointed Service Chiefs.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement on Friday by Babajide Omoworare, special adviser to the president on National Assembly Matters.

He revealed that Buhari asked the senate to confirm the appointment of the security nominees in a letter dated January 27.
