What Did Igbo People Do To Buhari? Omokri Asks

A former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri has questioned the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari not to pick any Igbo among his newly appointed service chiefs.

Omokri, a known critique of the Buhari administration took to his Twitter account on Tuesday to question the development after the President sacked the old service chiefs and appointed new ones.

He alleged that apart from the area of service chiefs, no Igbo is heading any of the three arms of government, no Igbo in the security council, no Igbo heading any of the intelligence agencies, security, or paramilitary formations.

He lamented that the only position Buhari gave to an Igbo person is that of his personal assistant on photography.

Omokri in his post asked: “What did Igbo people do to #Buhari?

* No Igbo heading any of the 3 arms of government
* No Igbo heading any of the 3 military branches
* No Igbo in the National Security Council
* No Igbo heading any of the intelligence agencies
* No Igbo heading any security or paramilitary agency.”

“Are Igbo people supposed to be grateful because Buhari made an Igbo his Personal Assistant on photography? Is taking photographs the only thing the Igbo are good for in Buhari’s government?”

Meanwhile, the Presidency has stated that it was the prerogative of President Muhammad Buhari to appoint whoever he feels fit as Service Chief.

Naija News reports that the presidency was reacting to alleged nepotism in the appointment of new service chiefs.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, Femi Adesina, said that the appointments of security chiefs are not subject to federal character.

Adesina stated that President Buhari can appoint whoever he feels is fit and will deliver the job accurately.

He said: “There are certain appointments that are subject to federal character, for instance, the constitution says that there must be a minister from each state of the country.

“However, there are certain appointments that are not subject to federal character and one of them is in the security.

“In security, It is about competence; it is about the ability to deliver.

“So, the president will appoint whoever he feels is fit and proper and will deliver to the best for the country and for Nigerians.”

Naija News recalls that President Buhari on Tuesday appointed new service chiefs for the nation after he sacked the previous ones.

This was confirmed on Tuesday in a tweet from presidential media aide, Femi Adesina in which he also quoted the president as appreciating the outgone service chiefs for their performance.

The President appointed Maj Gen LEO Irabor as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj Gen I Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Rear Admiral A Z Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), and AVM I O Amao as Chief of Air Staff (CAS).
