Bandits Attack Niger, Kill Over 20 People, Over 3000 Residents Flee

About 3,000 people have reportedly fled their homes after a bandit attack left six people dead in Niger State.

The attack, which took place in 12 villages in Paikoro Local Government Area of ​​the state, also injured 20 people.

Naija News learnt the attackers started the attack on Saturday and lasted until Sunday afternoon reciting their verses.

One of the villagers, Abubakar Azaido, said more than 20 people who died were now at the Kaffin Koro General Hospital.

He said, “The gunmen were numerous, over 200 and came on motorcycles. They also looted all the goods in a motorcycle spare parts shop in Amale village,” he said.

He said four people were killed in Gwajau village, two in Amale, four hostages in Dakolo and a pastor in Nani village.

Abubakar said the affected towns included Amale, Beni, Barakwai, Kakuri, Gudani, Abolo, Nani, Gwajau, Kubi, Zakolo, Kado and Dakolo.

“The attack started on Saturday night and more than 3,000 people have now fled their homes,” he said. Trembling with fear, people screamed and ran from every direction.

“I’m telling you now, I am in Kaffin Koro General Hospital where we have rushed 20 injured people.”

In addition, more than 200 cattle were abducted and taken to the Niger and Kaduna border states.

Attempts to contact Niger State Police Spokesperson Abiodun Wasiu were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
