BREAKING: Fayose Slams Atiku On National TV, Says PDP Prepared To Fail In 2023 Election

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has warned the Oyo state government against the arrest of a renowned youth activist, Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo.

Naija News reports that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, had ordered the arrest of Igboho over the quit notice given to Fulanis and the attack on their settlement in Igangan, Oyo state.

According to Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, IGP Adamu directed the commissioner of police in Oyo, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest Igboho and bring him to Abuja.

Also, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, directed the new state police commissioner to arrest persons found guilty of stoking ethnic tension.

Supporters of Igboho had on Friday allegedly attack settlements inhabited by Fulani groups, setting ablaze vehicles, houses — including the house of Salihu Abdukadir, Seriki Fulani, leader of the Fulani group.

But in a Twitter post on Saturday, Fayose said any attempt to arrest Igboho will escalate the unrest brewing in the region.

He advised Makinde to dialogue and persuade the activist instead of ordering his arrest. Fayose asked the governor to convene stakeholders meeting immediately in order to bring the situation under control.

Fayose wrote: “Gov Seyi Makinde should rather use dialogue and persuasion instead of escalating tension in his own State by calling for the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo or anyone at this time.

“If FG and some governors could ‘dialogue’ with Boko Haram terrorists, Gov Makinde calling all stakeholders to a round-table discussion will not be a misplaced action.

“Any attempt to arrest anyone will cause a further threat to the already fragile peace in the West and the country as a whole. Above all, any unchecked escalation may lead to a state of emergency.”
