Criminals Plotting To Attack Churches, Mosques In Lagos - Police

The Lagos Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested four officers on the rank of inspectors for harassing and extorting money from residents.

The State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu made this known in a statement to newsmen on Friday through the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The statement noted that the officers allegedly harassed and forcefully collected the sum of N70,000 from a 16-year-old student on Wednesday at NGAB Junction, Isheri Area of Lagos State.

It added that the officers have confessed to the crime and the money has been refunded to the teenager.

“The pictures of the policemen caught in the acts of unprofessionalism and extortion, have gone viral on the social media.

“This attracted the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Force Headquarters Abuja, and decided to track the policemen for necessary police action.

“After due interrogation, the policemen confessed to the crime and refunded the money to the student on bond, which forms the key credible evidence in the case,” he said.

Odumosu added that the affected officers will face orderly room trial, urging members of the public to go about their legal activities without fear of intimidation.

“I have ordered the orderly room trial of the inspectors with immediate effect so as to serve as deterrents to other criminally-minded police personnel in the command and beyond,” he said.

Meanwhile, one Pastor John Abiodun in Ondo State has been handed two years jail term for conspiring with others to give false reports on another clergy.

Naija News understands that a High Court sitting in Akure, the state capital on Thursday, January 21 ruled that the self-acclaimed pastor spend two years in prison for testifying falsely against a church founder.

Pastor Abiodun was said to have been arrested in 2019 after telling an untrue story about Akure based Pastor Gbenga Akinbiyi.
