The Kano State High Court, appeal division, on Thursday set aside the death sentence passed on Kano singer, Aminu Yahaya Sharif, for blasphemy.

The State Chief Judge, Nuraddeen Sagir, in its ruling ordered a retrial of the case against Sharif who had filed an appeal to challenge the sentence.

The Judgement was delivered on grounds that the lower court’s proceedings were characterised by irregularities.

Sagir also ordered that Sharif should be granted full legal representation and that the case should be tried before a different judge.

Recall that a Shariah Court in Kano State had sentenced the singer who was accused of blasphemy against Islam Prophet Muhammad.
