COVID-19: Edo Issues Directive To Hotels, Others Over Safety Precautions

The Edo State Government has directed stakeholders in the state’s hospitality sector to comply with the health and safety precautions rolled out to halt the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Naija News reports that the State COVID-19 Risk Communication Team gave the directive at a sensitization meeting with the Association of Hotel Proprietors in the state.

Health Educator, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ESPHDA), Irene Uabor, said the sensitization of stakeholders was necessary to drive compliance and enforcement.

She noted that the state government has rolled out guidelines applicable to the hospitality sector to check the spread of COVID19.

“There’s need for all relevant stakeholders to collaborate with government to halt the spread of COVID19. We are experiencing a very concerning twist with the new wave as more children are being infected,” Uabor said.

“There are new guidelines for the hoteliers and we want them to create a taskforce within the association to help in monitoring and compliance.”

She added that the state government enforcement team would be working with that of the hoteliers’ association to help in ensuring compliance in hotels.

“The new directive is that halls should not hold more than 30 percent of their carrying capacity and facilities must have handwash stations and other amenities to ensure compliance with the directives,” she said.

The Edo State government has also instructed that no school must resume in the state until a fresh directive is issued on the suspension of school resumption.

The Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday emphasized that the suspension of schools’ resumption is applicable to all educational institutions in the state.

He added in the statement that the action is to limit the spread of the virus and protect lives and livelihoods in the state.

On possible resumption date, Ogie noted in his statement that the directive would be reviewed on February 1, 2021, when the outcome of efforts to check the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state would be evaluated.
