1. Judge My Performance With Fairness, Buhari Tells Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked critics of his administration to judge his performance with fairness and equity.

Speaking when he received the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Reverend Yakubu Pam, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, Buhari asked his critics to consider all factors before rating his performance.

He also asked his critics to consider where the country was in 2015 and where it is currently, the resources available to work with and how much had been achieved with the available resources.

2. COVID-19: Again, FG Speaks On Declaring Nationwide Lockdown

The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed news circulating on social media that it was planning to impose fresh lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), also Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, made the clarification in a statement signed by Mr. Willie Bassey, Director Information in his office.

The SGF urged Nigerians to disregard the news circulating online, adding that no meeting has been held to discuss imposing another lockdown.

3. COVID-19 Killing Patriotic Nigeria Leaders – Obasanjo

Former Nigerian leader, Olusegun Obasanjo, has lamented over the death of prominent Nigerians as a result of the dreaded COVID-19 disease.

The elder statesman on Thursday, January 14 while reacting to the demise of Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd), said the novel virus is taking away Nigeria’s patriotic leaders.

Obasanjo regretted that resourceful citizens, who have served the nation faithfully had succumbed to the virus.

4. Kukah: Every Nigerian Has Right To Live Anywhere In Nigeria – Ortom

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has condemned the quit notice issued to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Kukah.

Naija News reports that an Islamic group, Muslim Solidarity Forum, had asked Kukah to tender an unreserved apology over his Christmas Day message or leave Sokoto state.

But in a statement signed and issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, on Thursday, governor Ortom said the quit notice issued to the Bishop contradicts the Constitution which accords Nigerians the right to live freely in any part of the country.

5. Your Govt Has Failed Nigerians – PDP Tells Buhari

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has knocked President Muhammadu Buhari for telling Nigerians to judge his administration fairly.

Naija News reports that the Nigerian leader had asked elites and critics of his administration to judge his performance with fairness and equity.

He made this known when he received the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Reverend Yakubu Pam, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.

But in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Thursday, the PDP asked Buhari to tell Nigerians some of his achievements since he became the President.

6. FG, States Okay January 18 For Schools Resumption

After reaching a consensus with Governors, Commissioners, and other stakeholders, the Federal Government has okayed the resumption of schools on January 18, 2021.

Naija News understands that the consensus was reached at a meeting between the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and Commissioners of Education in Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Echono confirmed this to The Nation.

7. Military Court Grants Soldier Who Criticised General Buratai Bail

A military court-martial sitting in Sokoto has granted bail to Lance Corporal Martins Idakpini who arrested and detained for criticising the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.

Naija News reports that this was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by Tope Akinyode, the soldier’s lawyer.

Akinyode said: “Court-martial grants bail to Lance Corporal Martins Idakpini. The court sitting in Sokoto made the order today after I argued the bail application.

8. No Harm Must Befall Kukah – CAN Warns Islamic Groups

The Christian Association of Nigeria, on Thursday issued a strong warning to Islamic groups over their threats on Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Mathew Kukah.

CAN issued this warning in a statement released through its General Secretary, Joseph Bade.

Recall that Kukah had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism in his Christmas day message

9. Fashola Reveals When Third Mainland Bridge Will Be Reopened

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has revealed that the Third Mainland Bridge would be reopened by February 15, 2021.
Naija News reports that the Minister stated this on Thursday during the inspection of construction work on major roads and bridges in Lagos State.

According to Fashola, after the reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge, work would begin on the Falomo Bridge.

10. NCDC Reports 1479 New Cases Of COVID-19

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday night, January 14 confirmed one thousand four hundred and seventy-nine (1,479) new cases of COVID-19 disease in Nigeria.

The newly reported cases bring the total cases of the novel virus to 105,478 in Nigeria since its outbreak in February last year.

NCDC reports that it has discharged a total of 83,830 patients while 1,405 people have died of the dreaded disease.
