JUST IN: UNILAG Gives Reason For Tuition Fee Hike

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Wednesday announced January 25, 2021 as the resumption date for online classes.

Naija News reports that this was known in the revised academic calendar for the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic session released by UNILAG.

The new semester is expected to run until April 1, 2021.

The federal university has been rocked with reports of positive coronavirus cases which forced the institution to shut down its staff club.

In a short statement last Friday, UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said the closure was to curb the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 on campus as a result of a second wave of the pandemic in the country.

He added that the closure was in compliance with the Lagos State Government’s directive about the closure of all social clubs and recreational centers in the state.

Recall that UNILAG had lost a former Dean of Education, Prof. Duro Ajeyalemi, to COVID-19.

Prof Ajeyalami died at the isolation centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.

Days before, Professors Femi Odekunle and Oye Ibidapo-Obe had earlier died of COVID-19. The three Dons are prominent indigenes of Ijesha land in the Osun East Senatorial District.
