Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Godwin Kanu who served as a military governor of Imo State during the General Olusegun Obasanjo military regime, has died.

PUNCH reported that Kanu’s death was confirmed by his close ally, Mrs Joe Okei-Odumakin on Wednesday, January 13.

Although the cause of his death is yet to be revealed, the retired military officer is said to have died at the age of 78.

“I can confirm that he has passed on. This is very sad news. A statement will be issued soon,” Okei-Odumakin said.

Naija News understands that Kanu was the first governor after the decree that established Imo from part of the old East Central State. He was appointed into the Supreme Military Council headed by the late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed in 1975 and subsequently became a human rights activist after retiring from the Nigeria army.

Meanwhile, the death has been reported of a high ranking Police officer, Omololu Bishi who was just only recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

Naija News reports that Bishi was promoted to the AIG rank last month by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
