Court Takes Decision On Barring Donald Trump From Contesting 2024 Presidential Primaries

American Social networking service company, Facebook has said it has no plan of lifting the suspension on President Donald Trump after violating its community rules a few days ago.

The social networking company revealed this on Monday, January 11 in a statement by its second in command, Sheryl Sandberg, Naija News reports.

The outgoing US president was during the last week suspended from using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram following his statement that fueled the violent invasion of the US Capitol by a mob of his supporters.

Naija News understands that the incumbent president had disagreed with the victory of President-elect Joe

“Our ban is indefinite. We have said at least through the transition. But we have no plans to lift it,” said Facebook’s chief operating officer in an online forum organized by Reuters.

“Our policies are applied to everyone,” Sandberg added in his reaction to Trump’s suspension, adding that the platform has removed posts by the president’s son and “other world leaders.”

“This shows that even a president is not above the policies we have,” he added.

Sandberg acknowledged that the company faced some hiccups in the 2016 US presidential election, failing to do enough against manipulative campaigns orchestrated from Russia, but she said Facebook had learned from its errors.

The social networking stepped up its efforts to fight against disinformation campaigns in the last few months as it suspended many accounts, groups and pages with violent or hate-filled content, Naija News understands.

“We are a private company and we have a service we provide and it is our responsibility to make sure that service is not used for things it shouldn’t be used for, like what happened last Wednesday,” she said.
