Amotekun, Others Arrest 47 Armed Men In Oyo

Some armed men suspected to be Fulani herders have been arrested in Oyo State by men of the Operation Burst.

It was reported that the suspects were arrested with guns and other deadly weapons in Igangan area of the state in an operation consisting of Soldiers, men of the Operation Burst and other security agencies.

Naija News understands that the alleged Fulani hoodlums were nabbed on Sunday morning at Ofiki River along Tapa/Igangan road in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state.

A source who spoke anonymously with newsmen revealed that the suspects were invited to strike by their kinsmen in the area following the raid carried out by the men of the Oyo State Security Network Agency popularly known as Operation Amotekun in the axis during the last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State branch of the South-West security outfit had claimed that the raid was carried out in collaboration with Miyetti Allah Vigilante, hunters, and others.

Amotekun said it raised hideouts of kidnappers in the area on Saturday leading to the death of three persons while one of its men was also injured.

On his part, while reacting to the incident on phone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, assured to get back to reporters on the development later.

The Coordinator of Odua People’s Congress in Ibarapa Zone of Oyo State, Olanrewaju Ogedengbe while confirming the incident said the armed men were loaded in three buses.

“47 of them were arrested at Ofiki River. They were caught with Dane guns and after their buses were searched; sophisticated guns, bows, and arrows, charms, catapults, and bullets were also found,” Ogedengbe.

He added: “I heard that security men have come to arrest the Seriki Fulani. He was arrested this morning. Those arrested said they were brought from Ilorin, Iseyin, and other places. They wore VGN uniforms (Vigilante Group of Nigeria).”

Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah in Oyo State denied carrying out a joint operation with Amotekun operatives in Ibarapa and Oke Ogun axes of the state, Naija News reports.
