Power Tussle Mars Edo PDP’s Primaries as Obaseki Prefers Ex-APC Loyalists

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the ruling of the Federal High Court on the certificate forgery case levelled against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP reacted in a statement titled, ‘Edo Election: PDP Hails High Court Verdict on Obaseki…Says It is Triumph of Justice,’ signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan.

The statement read in part, “The party describes the verdict of the court as triumph of justice, victory for democracy and a seal on Governor Obaseki’s landslide victory as the clear choice of the people at the September 19, 2020 governorship election.

“Indeed, the instant jubilation on the streets of Edo State at the news of the judgment is a resounding testimony that justice has been upheld and that Governor Obaseki’s election was in line with the wishes and aspiration of the overwhelming majority of the people of Edo state.

“Unarguably, Governor Obaseki was reelected because of his manifest patriotism and dedication to duty as demonstrated in his unwavering zeal towards the development of his state and the empowerment of his people.”

Naija News had earlier reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ruled that Governor Obaseki was qualified to contest in the September 2020 governorship election.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed while delivering judgment said that the APC failed to prove the forgery allegation beyond a reasonable doubt.

He held that the APC failed to by way of credible evidence, discharge the burden of proof placed on them by the law.
