Coronavirus: NCDC Confirms 1,544 New COVID-19 Cases In Nigeria

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday evening, 8th January 2021, confirmed 1,544 new cases of Coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria.

The new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via a statement on the official Twitter handle of the health agency.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 97,478 which includes 78,552 discharged cases and 1,342 deaths.

Below is the breakdown of the latest cases according to states with Lagos State having the highest number of cases followed by Plateau State.

Meanwhile, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been directed by the Federal Government to suspend the planned recruitment screening and documentation of 5,000 candidates fixed between January 10 and 23, 2021 at its academy in Jos.

FG noted that the decision was reached due to an increase in COVID-19 cases across the country.

The government directed that the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, to reach out to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on the public health implications of such an exercise.

The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Dayo Apata (SAN), in Abuja on Friday evening.
