Buhari’s Gov’t Set To Recruit 8000 More People Into The Nigerian Army

President Muhammadu Buhari led government has confirmed that no fewer than 8000 men would be recruited soon into the Nigerian Army for counter-terrorism and anti-banditry campaigns.

The development was confirmed to newsmen on Monday, January 4 in Maiduguri by Senator Ali Ndume, Chairman, Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, Naija News understands.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) senator noted hoped that in 2021, military counter-terrorism operations would end terror activities and other security challenges in the nation.

“Instead of the normal recruitment of 4,000 or 6,000 soldiers at a time, we have asked them (the military) to recruit about 8,000 soldiers,” Ndume noted.

The lawmaker added that “the new recruits are undergoing training in Zaria and Falgori in order to beef up the number of the troops.”

Ndume revealed further that the Nigerian Army had taken delivery of more sophisticated equipment for its operations, adding that the budget for Operation Lafiya Dole’s Theatre Command has been increased to N100billion in 2021 against the N75billion in 2020.

The senator hailed the Nigerian military for standing in defence of the country in spite of challenges.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Monday, promised that the Federal Government will improve security in 2021.

Mohammed noted that President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to provide the military and other security agencies with the required support to function better, Naija News reports.
