Deborah Samuel: Bishop Kukah Announces Suspension Of Catholic Masses In Sokoto State

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s government for always threatening people who call them out over bad leadership.

According to the PFN president, Felix Omobude, in a statement delivered on Wednesday, December 30, the Sokoto Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, Bishop Mathew Kukah should rather be praised for speaking the minds of patriotic citizens.

Naija News recalls that Bishop Kukah in his Christmas message earlier, berated the current leadership of Nigeria, accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism, adding that he was sacrificing the dreams of Nigeria for the pleasure of the north.

According to him, there could have been a coup or war in the country if a non-Nothern Muslim was the President and did some of the things Buhari had done. His statement, however, stirred a barrage of reactions among citizens.

PFN said it wonder why it is only in Nigeria that one cannot speak against the government and go free. Making reference to Donald Trump of the United States, Omobude said a number of persons have insulted the US sitting president without receiving any threat nor getting sued.

“Here in Nigeria, citizens have been taken to court by the present administration for insulting President Buhari,” the PFN president noted.

He said; “Kukah spoke on what is in the minds of most Nigerians and should be commended for voicing out when others kept quiet when things were getting out of control.

“Well, I appreciate Bishop Kukah. I do not think we have interacted one-on-one, but if you follow him, you will know that he is down to earth when it has to do with telling the truth.”

According to the Christian leader, Kukah is an advocate of democracy, hence would not call for a coup as insinuated in some quarters. Omobude urged the Minister of information, Lai Mohammed to stop causing chaos and face the truth.

He added: “Bishop Kukah is an advocate of democracy so he could not have been calling for the military overthrow of the government. The issues that he raised are very glaring.

“Now, it is only in this country that you can’t talk against the government and go free. What is the dust for?

“I know that the Minister of information is paid for his job, but he should be honest enough to face certain truths. People call Mr Trump all kinds of names and never has anybody been sued for insulting him, but people have been sued in Nigeria for insulting the president.

“Bishop Kukah should be seen as a patriot and not a sacrificial lamb. He is not a hater of government but he is a lover of truth. I stand wholeheartedly on his views.”

In another news, President Muhammadu Buhari promised that his government will monitor food inflation in the new year 2021.

Naija News reports that Buhari made the pledge during the 5th Presidential Economic Advisory Conference held at the Presidency on Tuesday.
