Former Bayelsa East Senator and businessman, Ben Murray-Bruce has offered to reconcile President Muhammadu Buhari and Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah.

The former lawmaker in his reaction to the current face-off between both parties, noted that their reconciliation is in the best interest of Nigeria.

It will be recalled that Bishop Kukah had in his 2020 Christmas message, claimed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government owes Nigerians an explanation as to where the country is heading to.

The cleric noted that there could have been a coup or war if a non-Northern Muslim had emerged as the President of this country.

However, the federal government didn’t take his submission lightly, accusing the clergyman in their response of trying to violently overthrow the Buhari administration.

The accusation was made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed in a statement titled, ‘FG Urges Religious Leaders To Eschew Message of Disharmony’, in reaction to Kukah’s Christmas message.

This development has in the past few days caused a lot of back and forth in the country with individuals, groups, public commentators, and other interested parties pitching their tents with either party.

However, Senator Ben Bruce has noted that both leaders should be reconciled in the interest of Nigerians.

Sen Bruce who represented Bayelsa Central in the 8th Assembly in a tweet on Monday said he would be willing to bring Buhari and Kukah together to understand each other.

“I’m Catholic, and so is Bishop Kukah. The religious faith in Nigeria is vital to our coexistence and must be seen as such. I, therefore, offer myself to bring together Bishop Kukah and President @MBuhari in the interest of Nigeria for a better understanding of each other,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of State for power, Goddy Agba has stated categorically that the responsibilities of his office doesn’t include handing out rice, clothes, and other items to people during festivities.

According to the Minister, his roles are not also limited to specific sections of the country, but the entire nation.

He, therefore, urged the people to demand durable and life-changing projects.
