1. Boko Haram Attacks Chibok On Christmas Eve, Burns Church

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020, attacked Pemi, a ward under Chibok LGA of Borno state, killing six people.

Naija News reports that the Boko Haram members burnt down the EYN (Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria) also known as Church of the Brethren in Nigeria.

2. Musa Kwankwaso Is Dead

Musa Kwankwaso, the father of former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has died aged 93 years.

Naija News reports that the elder Kwankwaso died in the early hours of Friday, December 25, 2020.

His death was made known in a statement to newsmen by the ex-governor Kwankwaso’s principal private secretary, Muhammad Ali.

3. IGP Assigns Portfolios To Newly Promoted DIGs (Full List)

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has assigned portfolios to five newly promoted Deputy Inspectors General of Police.

The newly-promoted DIGs are to oversee departments where former heads recently bowed out of service after completing full meritorious years of service in the force.

The newly-promoted DIGs and the departments they will supervise are DIG Usman Alkali Baba, fdc will now head the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), DIG Ibrahim A. Lamorde, mni – Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB), DIG David Oyebanji Folawiyo, mni – Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Joseph O. Egbunike – Department of Finance and Administration, DIG Dan-Mallam Mohammed, fdc – Department of Training and Development. Similarly, AIG Moses Ambakina Jitoboh, mni was redeployed from the Border Patrol Section to Acting DIG in-charge of the Department of Research and Planning.

4. Former Akwa Ibom Military Administrator, Idongesit Nkanga Dies Of COVID-19

A former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, has died at the age of 68.

Naija News reports that Nkanga, Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) died of COVID-19 complications on Thursday, December 24, 2020.

He was appointed the former military administrator of Akwa Ibom by former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida and served the state from September 1990 to January 1992.

5. Nollywood Veteran, Chico Ejiro Is Dead

Veteran Nollywood producer, Chico Ejiro is dead.

Naija News understands the Nollywood veteran filmmaker died in the early hours of Friday, December 25, 2020.

He reportedly died of a seizure just about 24 hours after concluding a new movie of Christmas eve, December 24.

6. Kankara School Boys ‘Claim’ Kidnappers Were Paid N30m Part Payment As Ransom

Some students abducted in the Government Science Secondary School by bandits but later released have claimed that their abductors were paid the sum of N30m as part ransom.

The students noted that the total demand for their request was N344m or N1m per schoolboy.

This is coming a few days after the Presidency, Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mattawale, the military and the Kastina State Governor, Aminu Masari, claimed that the kidnappers released the schoolboys for free.

Three of the schoolboys during an interview with the United States publication, Wall Street Journal, claimed that over N30m was paid.

7. Leah Sharibu: ‘May God Punish Garba Shehu’ – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has called on God Almighty to punish the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

In a series of posts on his Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode said Buhari’s aide statement was an insult on every Christian and every right-thinking Nigerian.

8. NCDC Says UK COVID-19 Variant Not In Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has dismissed reports that the new mutant strain of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK has been found in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that this was made known on Thursday by the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Iheakwazu, during the briefing on COVID-19 by the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on the virus.

The NCDC DG advised Nigerians to stay calm and safe, stressing that viruses by their very nature mutate.

Iheakwazu said the NCDC, in collaboration with the Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), did some sequencing but did not find the UK variant.

9. Fayose Reacts As Metuh Regains Freedom, Warns Justice Okon Abang

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the release of former PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, from Kuje custodial centre, Abuja.

Naija News reports that Metuh left Kuje after perfecting N250 million bail conditions set by the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Fayose wrote: “Welcome back home Olisa Metuh, tough time don’t last.

“And to Justice Okon Abang, you will one day reap the rewards of the hardship and suffering your miscarriage of justice has made many Nigerians to go through.”

10. Full List: CBN Shuts Down Seven Payment Services Providers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday announced that it has revoked the operating licences of seven payment services providers.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a report titled ‘Revocation of operating licences of some payment service providers’.

The Apex Bank accused the firms of ceasing to carry on in Nigeria the type of business for which their licences were issued for a continuous period of six months.
