The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume has urged the Nigerian Military to be more proactive in dealing with Boko Haram and other criminal attacks in Nigeria.

The Senator on Friday in his reaction to the Christmas eve attack by suspected Boko Haram gunmen on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020, at Pemi, a ward under Chibok LGA of Borno state in which six people were killed, condemned the action of the terrorists.

He however submitted that to have lasting peace and solution, the army must be more proactive rather than reactive.

Naija News earlier reported that apart from the Borno attack, Boko Haram also attacked Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State during Christmas eve.

Though soldiers were later mobilized to the scenes of the attack, the insurgents had reportedly escaped the scene.

In his reaction, Ndume who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Army condoled with the families of those affected as well as the churches burnt down.

He said: “It is highly unfortunate that the insurgents struck again on the Christmas eve and killed five people in Pemi.

“Churches, hospitals and schools were said to have been destroyed during the attack.

“I am using this opportunity to console with the families of the victims while the army personnel in the area should be preempting the insurgents instead of reacting after the deeds have been done.”

Meanwhile, Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Kukah, on Friday claimed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government owns Nigerians an explanation as to where the country is heading to.

The cleric noted that there could have been a coup or war if a non-Northern Muslim had emerged as the President of this country.

The Bishop made this known in his 2020 Christmas message titled, ‘A nation in search of vindication’, on Friday.
