Troops of the Nigerian army attached to the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven reportedly killed three armed robbers in Plateau State on Wednesday, December 23.

Naija News understands that the military men cornered the robbers in the noon hour of yesterday while operating around the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Mangu Halle, Mangu Local Government Area of the State.

Three out of the six notorious robbers were, however, killed in the trail while others escaped with gun wounds.

Confirming the development, Commander of the task force, Maj.-Gen Chukwuemeka Okonkwo said: “the criminals were killed Wednesday night while operating around the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in Mangu Halle, Mangu Local Government Area of the State.”

“On Wednesday night, our men neutralised three notorious armed robbers on Mangu road by NYSC Camp. The robbers had robbed three vehicles of their belongings including phones and other valuables.

“After a long pursuit by our men, three out of the six robbers were neutralised while three others escaped and suspected to have fled into the adjoining villages with gunshot wounds,” Okonkwo added.

Items recovered from the robbers include two locally-made long guns, six cartridges and a locally made pistol with five 9MM rounds of live ammunition, Naija News understands.

Okonkwo further explained that remains of the killed armed robbers have been handed over to the Mangu Division of the Nigeria Police Force. He assured residents of the military’s readiness to provide adequate security during this yuletide.

In other news, some gunmen on Tuesday abducted an unspecified number of passengers in an Abuja-bound commercial bus along the Benin-Auchi road in Edo State.

Naija News reports that the ‎gunmen attacked the bus travelling from Benin between Ehor and Iruekpen around 11 a.m.
