President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday announced that he won’t be hosting the usual Christmas homage by religious and other leaders in commemoration of the 2020 Christmas holidays.

This he announced in a statement by his official spokesperson, Garba Shehu where he noted that the development is in compliance with directives by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 banning large gatherings so as to curb further spread of the virus.

The President urged Nigerians to also observe the COVID-19 protocols even as they celebrate the 2020 Christmas and new year holidays.

“In line with the prevailing protocol put in place by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, restricting large gatherings, President Muhammadu Buhari will not be hosting the usual Christmas homage by religious and community leaders in the Federal Capital Territory.

The President urges all citizens to, in line with the prescribed protocol, observe social distancing, use face masks, wash hands frequently and avoid overcrowding of public spaces, markets, shopping centres, offices and places of worship.

President Buhari equally appeals to citizens to discourage all non-essential travels during the holiday season.
He wishes everyone a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year ahead,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, as earlier reported by Naija News, President Buhari in his 2020 Christmas message to Nigerians has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the security of lives and property of residents and citizens of the country.

Buhari in his statement on Thursday, urged Nigerians to embrace the lessons of joy, peace, hope, love, goodwill, and salvation offered by the joyous occasion of the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

He said Nigeria at this time, needs the virtues as it battles to overcome both economic and security challenges confronting the nation.
