Odumosu Reacts To Appointment As EFCC Boss

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has confirmed receiving intelligence of criminals plotting to attack churches and mosques in the southwest state.

Naija News recalls that the Department of State Service (DSS) had on Tuesday warned that some persons are planning to bomb Nigeria during the Christmas and new year celebrations.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, CP Odumosu said the command had received intelligence from the DSS.

He said the Command and other security agencies were taking steps to ensure no such thing happened anywhere in the state.

According to the CP, vulnerable areas have already been identified and policemen have already been deployed to forestall any issue.

He said: “The intelligence report came out and specifically said that churches and mosques are targets of the attacks.

“We are working on that, everyone should be rest assured that there is adequate security and they go about their lawful businesses without fear.”

COVID-19 Compliance

Speaking further, CP Odumosu disclosed that the Lagos Police Command had met with various clubs and social groups to suspend all end of year activities.

He added that the police would not hesitate to storm a wedding or social gathering and arrest people for flouting COVID-19 directives.

The DSS in a statement by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, had said criminals are planning to bomb selected places and create a sense of insecurity in the country.

It, therefore, called on citizens to be extra vigilant and report suspected cases or persons to the nearest security post for further action.

The secret police also warned those planning the criminal acts to desist as it was ready in collaboration with other security agencies in the country to prevent them from carrying out their nefarious plans.

The full statement reads: “The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public about plans by some criminal elements to carry out violent attacks on public places including key and vulnerable points during the yuletide seasons.”

“The planned dastardly acts are to be executed through the use of explosives, suicide bombing and other dangerous weapons.”

“The objective is to create a general sense of fear among the people and subsequently undermine the Government.”

Against this backdrop, citizens are called upon to be extra vigilant and report strange movements and indeed, all suspicions around them to security and law enforcement agencies.”
