Two people were abducted on Sunday night after gunmen attacked Funtua in Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria.

Residents said the attack took place in Zamfarawa area behind Bank of Agriculture building on Bakori Road around 11:00 pm.

HumAngle reported that the attackers came carrying deadly weapons on motorcycles, firing shots to intimidate and kill.

This comes barely 24 hours after police and vigilante group rescued more than 80 Islamic Students in Mahauta and less than two weeks after more than 300 children were abducted by terrorists at Kankara Secondary School in Katsina State.

Hamisu Maikarfe, a resident of Zamfarawa, told reporters that “troops have invaded our village shouting and shooting”.

“They terrorized the whole community before moving into our house and abducted my younger brother, Nafiu. Then entered another apartment and kidnapped one Mallam khamisu Dan Agaji,”  Maikarfe said.

Musa Aminu, a man who escaped from falling into the hands of gunmen on his way back from Funtua town, said he was shot at by the terrorists.

“On my way to our community, I sighted them with heavy guns like they are going for a war. They shot at me but couldn’t get me at all,” Aminu narrated.

“Immediately I escaped their attack, I reported them to Funtua police command and they responded within a short notice.”

HumAngle reported that police arrived shortly after the gunmen and their hostage-taker left.
