The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum has paid a visit to indigenes of the state who were displaced by Boko Haram terrorists and forced to live as refugees in Chad.

Zulum visited the refugees currently living at the Darsalam camp in Baga Sola on Tuesday.

Thereafter, the Governor on Wednesday also held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Chad, Idriss Déby.

The Governor discussed with the President of Chad on plans to repatriate the Nigerian refugees back to their own country.

Naija News understands the meeting, which held at the Presidential Palace in N’Djamena, was also attended by the Chadian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abakar Chahaimi, as well as the Nigerian Ambassador to Chad, Zannah Kolo.

This development was made known to newsmen via a statement titled, ‘Zulum meets Chad’s President Deby over thousands of Borno refugees.’

According to the statement, Zulum was quoted as saying, “I am here in Chad to see our people currently taking refuge at The Darsalam camp in Baga Sola.

“We met them yesterday (Tuesday). Our people are doing very well, the Government of Chad is taking care of them. So, I am here to express appreciation to the President for his generosity towards our people here in Chad.”

“Before today’s meeting with the Chadian president, Zulum crossed over the Lake Chad on Tuesday to the refugee camp in Baga Sola, interacted with citizens, and supervised the distribution of N50 million to 5,000 families as part of social protection,” the statement added.

The Borno State Governor had always made known his desire to bring back the persons displaced by Boko Haram terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements with the military declaring their support for such moves once they feel the areas are safe enough for the locals to return.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Military has stated that it was not in negotiation with the abductors of over 333 students of the Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) in Kankara, Katsina State.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operation, Maj. Gen. John Enenche made this known while addressing newsmen at the Army headquarters in Abuja.

He stated that negotiating with kidnappers, bandits or terrorists was not part of the modus operandi of the Nigerian military.

General Enenche assured that the security forces would rescue the schoolboys from their abductors soon.
