Kano Assembly Approves Ganduje’s Loan Request Of N10bn

The former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Abdulaziz Gafasa, alongside 13 other lawmakers are set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a report on Channels Television, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had allegedly worked out a plan for the removal of the former speaker.

Ganduje reportedly accused Gafasa of having meetings with PDP members.

The Kano governor also compelled the former speaker to hurriedly write a resignation letter late on Monday night which was read on the floor of the house on Tuesday.

Although the Former speaker is yet to make a public announcement regarding his intention to defect from APC, sources close to Gafasa told Channels Television that the former Speaker and 13 others are making consultations.

In a related development, lawmakers of the Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday elected Hamisu Ibrahim-Chidari (APC -Makoda) as their new Speaker to replace Gafasa who resigned on Tuesday morning.

Hon. Nuhu Abdullahi (APC -Wudil) nominated Chidari and the move was seconded by Sunusi Usman-Batayya (APC -Albasu) during plenary.

Ibrahim-Chidari was later confirmed as the new speaker by a majority of the lawmakers through voice votes. Until the appointment, Chidari was the House deputy speaker

Also, the lawmakers elected Mr Hamza Massu (APC-Sumaila) as the deputy speaker while Mallam Labaran Abdul-Madari (APC-Warawa ), was also elected as the new Majority Leader, and Mr Abdullahi Yaryasa (APC -Tudun Wada) emerged as the Deputy Majority Leader.
