Breaking: Senate Summons Minister, Security Chiefs, Others Over Insecurity In Nigeria

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday ordered the Minister of Defence and heads of the nation’s security outfits to appear before it.

The service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other heads of security agencies were summoned by the lawmakers.

The security situation in the country and particularly the recent kidnap of secondary school students in Kankara, Katsina State prompted the decision by the Senators.

After a motion moved by Senator Bello Mandiya from Katsina State, and various contribution from other lawmakers during Tuesday plenary, the legislators passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the various security agencies.

They also frowned at the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore security resolutions passed by them regarding the insecurity in Nigeria.

They insisted that the nation’s service chiefs should be sacked without further delay.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government for the second time in a row cancelled its meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday.

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government did not give any reason for the cancellation of the meeting scheduled to address the ongoing strike.

The union over the week has claimed that it is still consulting with its organs on the latest offer by the Federal Government.
