Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has announced the launch of a regional security outfit named Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Kanu, in a statement on Sunday, 13th December signed by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful explained that the new security outfit was set up to protect the Eastern region and is modelled in the manner of the Amotekun in the Southwest and Miyetti Allah in the North.

The IPOB leader lamented that bandits and some other criminals are terrorizing their region, hence the need to set up ESN to protect the people and inhabitants of the region.

According to him, criminals and terrorists who have turned the region into their operating ground will be dealt with by the new security outfit

Kanu’s statement reads in part: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to announce with delight, that IPOB has floated a special security network to guard and protect the whole of Biafraland from Fulani herdsmen terrorists and other criminal groups.

“The sole aim of this newly formed Security outfit known as Eastern Security Network (ESN), is to halt every criminal activity and terrorists attack in Biafraland.

“This outfit which is a vigilante group like the Amotekun in the South West and the Miyetti Allah security outfit will ensure the safety of our forests and farm lands which terrorists have converted into slaughter grounds and raping fields.”

Meanwhile, a captured Boko Haram fighter has revealed that an attack by the Nigerian military has crippled the leader of the insurgence, Abubakar Shekau.
