#EndSARS: Sanwo-Olu Gives N10m Each To Families Of Policemen Killed During Protest

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented cheques of N10m to each of the families of six policemen killed in the state during the October #EndSARS protest.

The cash compensations were made last Thursday to representatives of the families of police officers who unfortunately lost their lives during the protest.

According to a statement made available to Naija News on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile, the event held on December 3 during the 14th Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security organized by Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

Recall the #EndSARS protest started as a demand for the government to curb the human rights abuses, extra-judicial killings, and all other excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

After SARS was disbanded, the protests metamorphosed into a call for better governance in Nigeria.

Apart from the N10m cash, Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced scholarships for all the children of the deceased officers. The scholarship offer would cover each of the children from their current academic stage to the university level.

The slain Police officers whose families received a cheque of N10million each are late Yaro Edward, Assistant Inspector of Police (ASP), Inspector Ayodeji Erinfolami, Sergeant Bejide Abiodun, Inspector Adegbemiro Aderibigbe, Inspector Samson Ehiboh, and Inspector Igoche Cornelius.

Speaking during the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the killed officers for their dedication to duty which unfortunately resulted in them paying the supreme price in the line of duty.

On their part, the widows and families of the late officers, most of whom were emotional during the event appreciated the Lagos State Governor and the government for the goodwill extended to them.

In other news, President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that Nigeria’s land borders which have been closed for about a year will soon be re-opened.

Buhari noted that the land borders of the country were closed to control the smuggling of weapons and drugs.

The presidency in a statement released quoted Buhari calling on state governors to work more with traditional rulers and community members to improve local intelligence gathering that will aid the work of security agencies.
