The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum has rated President Muhammadu Buhari high in the fight against terrorists since he took over power in 2015.

He noted that despite the recent Boko Haram attacks in the state, the security situation has improved generally since the administration of President Buhari came on board.

Zulum added that while addressing elders from the Arewa Consultative Forum in Maiduguri on Sunday that his submission is based on statistics and records.

Naija News reports the northern elders, led by the chairman of the forum’s board of trustee, Ambassador Shehu Malami, and the forum’s executive chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh were on a condolence visit to the Governor over the recent massacre of some rice farmers in the state by Boko Haram Terrorists.

Zulum in his remarks during the visit explained that “From statewide statistics on affairs in the 27 local government areas since 2011, the fact is that despite the recent happenings in Borno State, the security situation in Borno State and indeed that of the Entire North East Sub-region is still far better under Buhari, and this is based on records.

“For instance, unlike the years before Buhari when a number of local government were no-go-areas, we now have citizens led by our traditional rulers, safely back to Bama, Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Dikwa, Ngala, Monguno, Kukawa, Damboa, Konduga, Mafa, all of which no one could visit not talk of living there. Our emirs were all in exile.”

He added that many communities that had shut down due to the activities of the insurgents are now coming back to life even as he commended the military, other security agencies as well as members of the Civilian JTF for their roles in ensuring the return of peace.

“Today, Bama is coming back to life and so is Askira-Uba, Damboa, Gwoza and others. Life is even returning go Baga. This was impossible before Buhari.

“In fact it was not possible to move few kilometers out of Maiduguri. Insurgents were so bold to attack and take over military facilities like the army barrack at Monguno, Bama, Giwa Barrack and Multinational Joint Task Force Headquarters at Baga to mention just a few.

“There were daily attacks bomb blasts in many parts of Maiduguri, the most populated part of the state but all of these have stopped under Buhari. These are the records and no one can dispute these records,” Zulum said.

The Governor as reported by Daily Trust, added that the insurgents are now seeking soft targets so as to maintain relevance and gain publicity.

“The insurgents by their nature, always want to attract publicity which is very strategic for terror propaganda, so they resorted to attacking our communities and running away and of course this worries us,” Zulum added.

In a related development, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said Boko Haram no longer receive tax from citizens.

The Minister stated this on Thursday, December 3 during an interaction with the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigerian, NPAN in Lagos State.
