Transport Minister, Chubuike Amaechi says he chose to be with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 instead of Goodluck Jonathan because he does not show ethnicity.

The former governor of Rivers State claimed that Jonathan had offered him various options to stay in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but he refused to accept his offer.

He said when he left the party, the former president fought him but he managed to overcome the situation because God was with him.

The Nation newspaper reported that Amaechi made the remarks as he received some PDP members who defected to the APC in Port Harcourt.

According to the former governor, he will return to the oil-rich state by 2020 to return to politics, and if he does, he will be in charge of all affairs in the state. He added that everything he said would happen.

He added that he had never drunk alcohol in his life, had never smoked and was not a tribalist.

Amaechi added: “If I were tribalistic, President Goodluck Jonathan offered me opportunity to remain in PDP. He offered me all sorts of opportunities, but I said that I had given my allegiance to Buhari because I am not tribalistic.”

In other news, PDP candidate, Maria Godwin Akwaji has succeeded her late husband after she defeated her All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Abor Adaje Godwin.

Maria is the wife of the late Akwaji, a state legislator who died in June 2020. INEC Chief Electoral Officer, Prof. Abel Ezeoha, announced on Sunday that while Akwaji received 32, 166 votes, Godwin received only 3, 546 votes.
