The Kano State government has demanded an apology from the East Carolina University over the fake professorial appointment offered to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The demand follows the clarification by the University that Ganduje’s purported appointment as a visiting professor in a letter by one Victor Mbarika, a member of its faculty wasn’t authorized by the institution.

It added that Mbarika is not authorized to make such appointments or sign such letters on behalf of the University.

Mbarika’s letter had suggested Ganduje has been appointed Senior Mentoring Scholar and Visiting Full Professor of E-Governance and International Affairs at the East Carolina University in the United States of America (USA) but days, after the appointment was celebrated by the Kano State government, the University management, came out to deny the appointment.

Reacting to the saga via a statement on Sunday signed by the Kano SSG, Usman Alhaji, the state government said the development is an embarrassment to Ganduje.

It also demanded the University take disciplinary action against Mbarika, the faculty member who signed the initial letter also demanded an immediate apology from the University.

“We are deeply saddened by the uproar stirred up by this controversial appointment that attempted to embarrass the person of the governor and the good people of Kano state,” the statement noted.

The statement also described Governor Ganduje as a man of integrity denying he ever made any backdoor moves to secure the position from the American University or any other institution within or outside Nigeria.
