Behold New NANS President, Sunday Dare Asefon Who Is About 50-Year-Old

A Postgraduate Diploma student of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU) has emerged president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Naija News reports.

Though it was reported in some quarters that Sunday Dare Asefon is 48-year-old, subsequent findings claimed the news NANS president is 43 years old.

It has been alleged also that Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, released the sum of N40 million to support the candidate to emerge winner of the student respected position. Dare is said to be a former coordinator of the Association in Zone ‘D’ comprising of schools in the Southwestern states.

The candidate was declared the winner of the election after he polled 155 votes ahead of his major contenders who polled a few votes respectively; Momodu, 11; Champion, 2 votes; Alopay, 7 votes and Ladoja, 100 votes.

Naija News understands that there was chaos a the venue of the election at the Old parade ground, Area 10, Garki in Abuja today, Friday, December 4.

Sporadic shootings were reported while the election was ongoing. It was alleged that cult members brought to the convention ground engaged DSS officials in a shootout.

Outgoing Public Relations Officer of the NANS, who doubles as Special Assistant on Student Matters to the Ogun State Governor, Azeez Adeyemi was reportedly arrested in the process with live cartridge and ammunitions.

Meanwhile, The National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS had in November 2020 threatened to embark on mass protest if the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities fail to end the ongoing strike.
