More Than 37,000 Disasters Have Occurred In Nine Months In Katsina

NEMA Warns Ondo, Delta, 17 Other States To Prepare For Flood

The Katsina state government in northern Nigeria says the state suffered 37,970 disasters from January to September 2020 including fire and rain hazards combined with strong winds and floods and theft.

The Secretary-General of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Babangida Nasamu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities of the agency.

It appears that there have been 333 fire accidents.

Nasamu added that thefts were reported in Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa and Dandume Local Government Areas.

According to him, there were 24,170 cases of theft in the state.

The head of the agency said heavy rains combined with strong winds had destroyed several homes causing thousands of people to flee their homes and flooding 3,250 times.

However, the official added that the government had provided N52.9m to the victims.
