Supreme Court Affirms Diri As Bayelsa Governor

Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party has been affirmed as the elected elected Governor of Bayelsa State by a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court.

Justice Sylvester Ngwuta in his ruling dismissed the six appeals filed against Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

This is coming after the lawyers of the appellants withdrew the six appeals.

The appeals dismissed were filed by the Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party and Labour Movement, according to Channels Television

Accord Party against Diri and Ewhrudjakpo was also dismissed.

Recall Diri came second in the Governorship election in the state but was later declared the elected governor of the state in a subsequent Supreme Court judgment disqualifying the All Progressives Congress’s candidate David Lyon who earlier emerged the winner of the poll.
