Nigeria Drops In Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index (See New Position)

Nigeria has dropped lower in the latest ranking of countries according to Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index.

According to the report, the West African country slipped from its previous 136th position (when President Muhammadu Buhari was first inaugurated) to now occupy 146th position out of 180 countries.

This latest development was confirmed in a Twitter post by Professor Steve Hanke an American Professor of Applied Economics at the Johns Hopkins University.

He lamented that despite claims by the Buhari administration to be fighting corruption, corruption runs rampant within his government.

He wrote: “#Nigeria now ranks 146th out of 180 countries in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, slipping from 136th place when @MBuhari was first inaugurated. Under Buhari’s “watchful eye”, corruption runs rampant.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari and other top government officials should no longer engage in foreign medical trips.

This position was adopted by Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs when the State House permanent secretary, Tijani Umar appeared before it to defend the 2021 budget figures for the State House.
