Zimbabwe’s first lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, has denied involvement in the country’s gold smuggling scandal, challenging police to present evidence.

She also denies involvement in Henrietta Rushwaya’s illegal deal with a gold miner who was arrested last Monday.

Rushwaya was arrested while carrying a kilogram of gold in a bag at Harare International Airport on her way to Dubai.

Police say Rushwaya does not have a valid travel document but has denied the allegations in court.

Mrs Mnangagwa also said her son was not involved in the scam.

“I am deeply saddened by the allegations that my son was involved in this scam, without any evidence,” she said.
