Pastor Tunde Bakare Supports Regulation Of Social Media In Nigeria, Asks Buhari To Act On #LekkiMassacre

Why I Will Never Give Up On Buhari – Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church has thrown his support behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government’s resolve to regulate the social media.

Earlier on Monday, November 2, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, stated categorically that the government could shut down all social media platforms in the country during the recent campaign against police brutality but refused to do so.

However, the minister who spoke on Channels Tv assured that the National Assembly will do justice to the proposed regulation on the use of social media to guard against the spread of fake news in the country.

On his part, while speaking on Arise Tv today, Pastor Bakare who was a running mate of President Buhari in the previous election, said there is need for the government to regulate the media so as to ensure that posts by individuals only promote the nation.

Naija News recalls that the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed was earlier condemned when he announced to the public the government’s intention to regulate the social media. However, Mr Bakare is of the opinion that the platforms should only be used to promote the country’s integrity.

Recalling recent killings of Nigerians at the Lekki Toll Gate during the #EndSARS protest, Pastor Bakare urged the incumbent government to apologize to Nigerians and ensure justice is served to the affected persons and their immediate families.

He, however, blamed protesters on what he termed ‘discomfort’ during the protest as a result of the blocked roads and for the apparent lack of leadership, and refusal to negotiate with the government.

He again urged the Buhari’s administration to take responsibility for the killings and do the needful to the affected persons.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian youths participating in the ongoing #EndSARS protests to swap the streets for the negotiation table.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari, represented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello, spoke at the maiden National Youth Day programme with the theme “Invest in the youth, secure our future” held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
