Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2020 Ondo State governorship election has challenged the outcome of the polls before the tribunal.

This development is coming about three weeks after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the election.

However, Naija News gathered Jegede has approached the tribunal on Friday to register his interest in challenging the results of the polls as declared by INEC.

Prof Idowu Olayinka, the INEC Returning Officer, had declared Governor Akeredolu the winner of Ondo 2020 governorship election with 292,830 votes.

On the other hand, Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 195,791 while Ondo Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) scored 69,127 votes.

Jegede confirmed his next move in a statement on Friday via his Twitter page where he wrote:

“In the last 19 days I have been silent, today we break that silence in obedience to the provisions of our laws. We commence a challenge against the declaration and return made by INEC in respect of the Ondo State Governorship election of 10th October 2020.

“By this process, let our people again begin to hope for a better future to the glory of God.

“God bless Ondo State. Eyi N’ise Oluwa.”
