Reactions As Osinbajo Joins 2023 Presidential Race

Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has spoken out over the shooting and massacre of EndSARS protesters on Lekki Highway in Lagos.

“My heart goes out to all the victims of the Lekki shootings, and also the policemen and all other men and women who lost their lives in the past few days in different parts of Lagos & other states,” said Osinbajo.

The message was posted by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on his Twitter account to reassure Nigerians after security forces opened fire on protesters in Lekki, killing 12 people, according to an Amnesty report.

This is the first time someone from the presidency has spoken out about the killings, more than 24 hours after the military opened fire on peaceful protesters.

“We pray we will never see a repeat of these tragedies,” he said.

Since the incident, people inside and outside the country have been outraged and called on the government to end the killing of the young protesters.

This situation that Nigeria has found itself in has attracted international attention and criticism from various quarters and prominent individuals.

ECOWAS has warned Nigerian security forces against using excessive force against protesters. The Nigerian military has denied allegations that it opened fire on youths.

Tensions remain high and riots continue despite a 24-hour curfew imposed by the government in Lagos to quell the dust that is trying to destabilize the state.
