Controversy Over Makinde’s Offer To Repair Soun’s Palace

Governor Seyi Makinde-led government has denied the report making round that the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi, rejected the offer to repair the damaged palace.

Recall that some #EndSARS protesters destroyed the palace during an attack.

The Oyo State Governor during his visit to the monarch had vowed to repair the palace with a donation of N100 million.

He also ordered the ordered the immediate release of N10million for the commencement of the repair works.

A letter was, however, spotted online which quoted the monarch calling on Makinde to keep the balance of N90m.

It was also stated in the letter that the people of Ogbomoso have decided to repair the palace.

The alleged letter dated October 19, which bears the signature of the monarch and received on October 21 through the office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor as well as the Office of the CSO at the Governor’s office, urged Makinde to use the N90million of the promised N100m to see to youth occupational engagement.

The spokesperson of Gov. Makinde, Taiwo Adisa in his reaction to the letter described it as fake.

Adisa noted that he has reached out to the monarch to confirm authenticity of the letter but the Soun denied ever writing such or rejecting the support of the Governor to repair the damaged palace.

Adisa said: “I have spoken to His Royal Majesty, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, who totally denounced the said letter and its contents.”

“Soun said he never authorised anyone to issue a letter on his behalf and that if any such letter surfaces, some persons must have forged his signature.”

“The Soun said he wholeheartedly welcomes the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde to fix the palace and all the damaged items.”
