The Ghana Electoral Commission (GEC) has barred five candidates from running in the December presidential election over allegations of forgery of signatures and manufacturing of endorsees

They will be handed over to the police for further investigation, according to NEC chairman Jean Mensah.

The candidates are Kofi Koranteng (independent), Marricke Kofi Gane (independent), Akwasi Odike (United Progressive Party), Kwasi Busumburu (People’s Action Party) and Agyenim Boateng (United Front Party).

The Electoral Commission will refund their nomination fees and each of them will receive 100,000 cedis.

Twelve people have been shortlisted for the presidential election, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is seeking re-election.
